Together SA – Senekal Water Delivery

Having driven in convoy with the Manline Truck carrying water into Senekal, we at Together SA were able to witness first-hand the extent of the drought in this small Free State town.

The town of Senekal is reliant on two storage dams which supply the town with all their water. These dams are 5% full at the moment. This means that the community of Senekal is totally reliant on water being brought into the town through incredibly generous and caring public support.

Based on media reports, we had expected to find a depressing sight. While the effects of severe drought were clearly visible and had taken a toll on the land and people, what we found was a community united. Residents and farmers had formed a committee to coordinate relief efforts. The farmers in the area have been bringing in water pumped from boreholes on their farms. Tanks have been set up throughout the town for residents to collect water from. This is the true South Africa.

Maritzburg College donated enough water to fill two bakkies.

Curro School Hillcrest have donated over 200 bottles.

Together SA is deeply grateful to the individuals, schools and businesses who have reached out to fellow South Africans. In association with Save Hyper & Manline, we will be continuing drought relief efforts. To get involved, you can donate water to our water bank at Save Hyper, Victoria Road, Pietermaritzburg or donate cash to assist with drought relief.
